AWE donation brings science alive

A £500 donation from AWE is making waves at Oakbank Secondary School, Ryeish Green, Reading. The school purchased an oscilloscope and a power signal generator for use in science classes and experiments. The equipment is used to generate and measure sound waves; frequency, amplitude and wave length.  Oscilloscopes are used widely in the sciences, medicine, engineering and telecommunications and signal generators for designing and testing electronic devices.

Oakbank science teacher, Simon Combstock, said: “The donation has enabled the science department to purchase these pieces of equipment that we would otherwise not normally have in the school. This will really enhance the teaching of science lessons and assist the students with understanding this module of the curriculum.”

AWE’s Michele Maidment, said: “As an organization which is at the forefront of excellence in science and technology, inspiring the scientists of the future is very important to us .We’re very pleased to be able to support Oakbank School in the purchase of this equipment and hope students enjoy using it. You never know – this may encourage some to go on to undertake an exciting and rewarding career in science and engineering!”
