UK Warhead Replacement Programme

On 25 February, the Government announced the replacement warhead programme in Parliament, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining the United Kingdom’s minimum credible independent nuclear deterrent, which exists to deter the most extreme threats to the UK and our NATO allies.

AWE has been working closely with the Ministry of Defence to maintain capability in readiness to develop and produce a replacement warhead when required by the Government. The replacement warhead programme will be underpinned by our uniquely talented workforce and advanced technology and manufacturing capabilities.

We are proud of our contribution towards maintaining the Continuous at Sea Deterrent over the past 50 years and look forward to continuing our role as safe and effective stewards of the UK warhead stockpile in the coming years and decades.

For more information, read the Defence Secretary’s announcement in Parliament.
