Young Engineer of the Year Award winner from AWE

AWE is celebrating International Women in Engineering Day and is thrilled that our engineer, Kayleigh, won the first ever Engineering and Safety Directors Forum (ESDF) Young Engineer of the Year Award.

In total, nine people from AWE were shortlisted at the awards, including a team entry for the Engineering Simplification Award and two further nominations in the Young Engineer of the Year category.

The Engineering and Safety Directors Forum (ESDF) awards are run jointly by the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE) and the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) focused on celebrating talent in engineering and safety. ESDF brings together nuclear executives to promote learning, agree key industrial strategy and makes sure the industry constantly improves.

AWE continues to play an integral part in the national endeavour to help keep the nation safe, working at the highest standard of engineering and safety.

Kayleigh, an engineer at AWE, was celebrated for demonstrating outstanding technical achievements of value to Defence Nuclear Enterprises. She was also judged on her professionalism, integrity, communication, problem solving and leadership skills and showed agility, boldness, collaboration and simplification attributes in the award entry.

Mandy Savage, the Executive Director of Engineering at AWE said:

“I feel very proud of Kayleigh and our other nominees.

“Kayleigh has shown real drive and determination in her career and it’s obvious, having met her, she will go far within engineering.

“Kayleigh, and all the nominees, are an asset to AWE, and the UK’s national security.”

Kayleigh started her career at AWE in an administrator role without engineering experience but showed an interest in the field and progressed to having a successful and thriving career at AWE. With the support of her team and managers and learning on the job, Kayleigh now has a qualification in general engineering.

Kayleigh’s so pleased to have been recognised, saying: “I’m very thankful for this award and proud of this achievement!

“I would like to thank my team members in supporting and helping me achieve this.”
