AWE forms new partnership with The University of Manchester
AWE is pleased to announce a new Strategic Alliance with The University of Manchester, marking a significant commitment to advancing research and innovation in nuclear science and technology.
The University of Manchester becomes AWE’s sixth key strategic university partner, joining the University of Bristol, Cranfield University, Heriot-Watt University, Imperial College London and the University of Strathclyde.
Each university brings a breadth of expertise that supports AWE’s mission in keeping the UK safe.

AWE Academia Lead, Gareth Cairns, said: “By collaborating with The University of Manchester, we are together positioning ourselves to advance materials modelling and research – driving new thinking and also nurturing the next generation of scientists and engineers.”
The AWE-University of Manchester partnership demonstrates a shared endeavour to build on the work being undertaken in advanced mathematics and numerical methods.
Professor Peter Green, Interim Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at The University of Manchester, said: “By bringing together academic and industry knowledge in this way we are helping to build the capabilities needed to underpin the UK’s long-term resilience in an increasingly complex world. Through this partnership we will play a vital role in nurturing the future STEM workforce and catalysing research.”
