AWE athletes scoop prestigious UK Challenge title

Five teams from AWE raised over £1,000 for charity when they took on the mighty Brecon Beacons to win the 2026 UK Challenge.
In scorching temperatures, AWE teams came 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th, competing in a field of more than 60 teams. They also won the Defence/Aerospace Trophy, Novice Trophy, Most Intelligent Team and King of the Sprints.
As part of the challenge, teams also raise money for charity and AWE’s teams raised £1623 for Parents and Children Together (PACT). During training for the event, the AWE entrants ran over 8,000 kilometres, cycled just under 21,500 kilometres and swam 263 kilometres!
Established for more than 30 years, the annual three-day UK Challenge combines challenges for ‘mind and muscle’, testing competitors to their limits and enabling them to uncover their strengths and add value to their team. Its seven stages involve problem-solving and outdoor challenges across running, cycling and kayaking, with puzzle solving and strategic planning thrown in. The winners are those with lowest total time after completing all the stages.
Well done to each of the teams – they’re already looking forward to next year!
