Engineering plays a vital role at AWE, helping us maintain, improve and develop the facilities, equipment and systems that support our mission to keep the nation safe and secure.
From advanced manufacturing and automation to specialist maintenance and complex engineering systems, our engineers help ensure critical facilities operate safely, reliably and efficiently. As an Engineering Apprentice, you’ll develop practical skills, technical knowledge and hands-on experience while working alongside experienced professionals on real projects that make a meaningful contribution to our mission.
Our engineering pathways include:

By the end of your programme, you’ll have gained valuable experience, a nationally recognised qualification and the foundations for a rewarding engineering career.

We’re looking for people who want to keep the lights on – literally and figuratively.
If you’re someone who’s curious about how electrical assemblies and you enjoy getting hands-on, solving problems, and bringing engineering principles to life, we want to hear from you.
Whether it’s inspecting systems, fault-finding, or making things work better, this is your chance to turn that passion into a career with real impact.
Our Level 3 Engineering apprenticeship recruitment process is slightly different to our other apprenticeship programmes. As you’ll be applying for a broad engineering pathway rather than a specific engineering discipline, we’ll use a combination of your application, online assessment results and assessment performance to identify the engineering area that is the best fit for your skills, interests and potential. If you’re successful following the application and online assessment stage, the next steps are outlined below.
If you’re invited to an activity assessment, you’ll take part in a range of practical activities designed to assess your technical potential, interests and strengths across our engineering disciplines. This will give you the opportunity to experience elements of each pathway and demonstrate where your skills are best suited. If your application progresses, you’ll be invited to an assessment centre for the role we believe is the best match for you.
If successful, you’ll be offered a place on one of our five specialist engineering apprenticeships. This decision will be based on a combination of your assessment performance, interests and business requirements, helping ensure the best possible fit for both you and AWE.
