Andrew Chalklin

Chief Information Officer and Executive Director, Security

Andy joined AWE in May 2024 as Chief Information Officer and Executive Director for Security.

In his role Andy is responsible for AWE’s sizeable technology change portfolio that is focused on modernising and bringing new capability to AWE. Andy is also accountable for all aspects of security at AWE; physical, personnel and cyber security.

Andy has extensive international experience driving technology innovation, and digital transformation, and specialises in building efficient and agile teams, with productive stakeholder relationships.

Andy started his career in space and aviation, joining EASAMS directly from university after studying Microelectronics & Computer Engineering at Bangor. He has then spent the next 30 years of his career in roles across technology, hospitality and financial services, and space and aviation.

Prior to joining AWE, Andy was Chief Operating Officer at the University of Surrey, providing central services including IT, Cybersecurity, Finance, HR and Estates and Facilities. He also had accountability for commercial operations and subsidiaries such as Surrey Sports Park and Surrey Research Park, as well as Surrey’s incubator space and Surrey Seed Fund, handling IP commercialisation and venture funding.
