Dr Dominic Jones

Executive Director, Safety, Sustainability, Health Environment & Quality

Dominic is the Executive Director for Safety, Sustainability, Health Environment and Quality (SHEQ) at AWE. He is responsible for developing and deploying effective Company policies, strategies and processes to maintain AWE’s Licence to Operate and safely deliver the Company’s requirements.

Prior to taking up this role in March 2023, Dominic was Director of Nuclear Threat Reduction, supporting national security and working with internal and external customers to define and deliver technical solutions. In this role, he supported several national and international events and continues to represent AWE as a scientific advisor to Government.

Dominic led the transition of AWE to become an Arm’s Length Body within the Ministry of Defence in 2021.

Dominic joined AWE in 2007 and became the Head of Radiation Protection (Corporate RPA) in 2009. During this time, he also provided technical input to the UK response to the Fukushima incident in Japan and acted as a technical advisor to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for expert missions overseas.

Prior to joining AWE, Dominic worked as a consultant on several waste management and decommissioning projects within the civil nuclear sector.

Dominic graduated from the University of Manchester with an MChem (Hons) and PhD in Nuclear Chemistry and lives in Hampshire with his family.
